When you are looking for the top winter sports destination on the western side of the country, everyone knows to head over to Park City. Our Utah home has some of the best slopes around and continues to be a location where Olympic athletes train. However, Park City is not just for the winter and features many incredible summer activities during the warmer months of the year. Get ready for the last bit of summer by checking out Park City for yourself over Labor Day Weekend. This holiday weekend is known to be a great time to travel with kids having time off school and adults begin given an extended weekend off work. Take a look at what your Labor Day in Park City can look like this year:

Miner’s Day

Park City has a rich history in mining, as it was the reason the area was initially founded. Each year, the residents of Park City get together for the longest standing tradition here in the area, Miner’s Day. This annual event has been going on for 129 consecutive years and continues to be a highlight of the region. The event takes place on September 2nd for a full day of festivities for the whole family to enjoy.

The event kicks off over at City Park for the annual Miner’s Day Breakfast starting at 7:30 AM, which is open to residents and visitors alike. Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast that will fuel your day through the festivities. Next up on the agenda is the 5K run that can be completed with your friendly pup for an enjoyable run. A traditional parade will be held throughout Main Street in Downtown Park City with decorative floats leading the way.

However, one of the biggest draws of Miner’s Day is the Running of the Balls event. This event also takes place on Main Street and features thousands of yellow ping pong balls that are released down an enclosed trail. The event is a fun take on the Running of the Bulls event that would take place in Spain but obviously is much safer.

Miner’s Day will reach its end back over at City Park for an evening of fun activities. Here visitors will be able to enjoy a “mucking and drilling” competition that has volunteers and miners participate in traditional mining activities. This provides a firsthand experience at the many technical skills for the profession. Don’t miss out on this year’s Miner’s Day taking place on September 2nd in Park City.

Check Out the Utah Olympic Park

As mentioned, Park City is the home to many different Olympic development programs that see athletes getting reading for winter Olympics. The area became popular for this due to Utah Olympic Park being constructed in 2002 to host the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. While the park is a joy to see during the winter season it is even more exciting to check out during the summer. That is because the Utah Olympic Park has plenty of fun for you to explore while the sun is shining. The Utah Olympic Park has several attractions for you to engage in including a ropes course, alpine slide, zip lines, extreme tubing, and bobsled tracks. As you can see, a visit here in the summer is perfect for the adrenaline junkie in your family who wants some more thrills during your visit. The Gold Pass at Utah Olympic Park has most of the activities covered for one simple fee. There is no shortage of fun here!

Take a Scenic Gondola Ride

The views of Park City are always incredible but you can see even more when you get a little elevated. Take a ride aboard the scenic gondola that will take you up to the mountains. There are several gondolas that can be accessed depending on where you can in town. When in Downtown Park City, head over to the Town Lift. For those with a vacation rental in Park City Mountain Village or Canyons Village you can take the Crescent Express or Red Pine Gondola respectively. A ride aboard the gondola gives you unparalleled views of the Tahoe National Forest before you reach the top of the cliffs. The summer season is always best spent outdoors so don’t miss out on a thrilling gondola ride to see all the natural beauty around you.
